BBC School News Report 2010

On Wednesday 10th February 2010 Bloomfield Collegiate School students arrived at Tor Bank School to deliver a Healthy Eating Work Shop which they had prepared and organised with the support and guidance of their teacher Suzanne Fizzell and Sarah Boyd, Tor Bank School.

Initially the Bloomfield Collegiate Students worked with the primary department.  They organised a Healthy Eating Assembly which involved a blindfolded tasting session and of course the teachers were involved.  Then they subdivided into different groups and carried out a variety of activities such as taste testing different foods, colouring in and identifying different foods with an inflatable ball.  We also had a visit from Mash Direct who very kindly gave us sample of their lovely food which includes champ, turnip and parsnip.

In the afternoon the Secondary and Sixth Form Department worked collaboratively with the Bloomfield Collegiate girls to cook different Healthy Recipes which involved all the Food Groups.  They were cheese scones, fruit salad, Healthy burgers with a tomato salsa, a carrot cake with a cream cheese topping and baked potatoes with a variety of topping. .

It was a very informative and enjoyable day and many thanks to the Bloomfield Collegiate School.

The BBC bus also arrived in school and some of our students were able to access the bus and the radio recording facilities.  Chris Bracken, BBC also took a group of students around the school with a radio micro and recorded different sounds of the day.  They really enjoyed it.  Here are some quotes from our school regarding the BBC visit.

Andrew H ‘It was a very nice experience.  My favourite part was listening to my friend recording the radio programme’.

Andrew B’ It was really good. I really enjoyed recording my voice’

ZaraThe students really enjoyed the visit from the BBC bus.  The staff were very supportive and helpful in explaining how to record a radio programme.  They especially enjoyed being roving reporters and recording the sounds of our Healthy Eating Day as well as interviewing the staff and students.  This provided them with insight to the world of TV and Media and what it would be like to be a presenter’
