sECTION 3 - cOLLABORATIVE PRACTICES WITH LOCAL COMMUNITY

INCLUSION

In Tor Bank we encourage inclusive practices both within and outside the school.  We are committed to working with other schools and our local community in order to develop the fullest social, academic and functional inclusion possible for each pupil.  This inclusive practice with schools, community and health partnerships ensure that Tor Bank pupils can access inclusive opportunities in all aspects of their school and future lives.

SCHOOL LINKS

We place great emphasis on our links with mainstream school.  The Primary Department have established links with Brooklands Nursery School, and Dundonald Primary School.  The Secondary Department have strong links with Bloomfield Collegiate School, Our Lady and St Patrick College Knock and Dundonald High School.  Our Pupils go to mainstream schools for specified sessions and the pupils from Bloomfield Collegiate and Our Lady and St. Patrick’s College Knock come to Tor Bank on a weekly basis to join in classroom programmes e.g. swimming, horse riding etc.

COMMUNITY LINKS PROGRAMES

We place great emphasis on building up local community partnerships to raise the profile of pupils with complex learning needs and encourage members of the community to tolerate and support these needs appropriately.

These valuable partnerships include:

·        Castlereagh Partnership

·        Northern Ireland Business and Education Partnership (NIBEP)

·        Agencies and Consortium for Education and Training

·        Orchardville Society

·        Training and Employment Agency

·        Asda Supermarket

·        Local Health Trusts
